Hi and Welcome to Carolee Wellbeing
I’m a qualified wellbeing practitioner, coach, mindfulness teacher, and counsellor
Ocean advocate, scuba diver, and lover of the sea
As a wellbeing coach and counsellor, I combine the science of wellbeing with the artful skills of counselling and coaching. I am qualified and skilled to use them independently, or dance between them to serve your needs in any given moment.
What is Counselling?
Counselling is an evidence-based therapeutic and collaborative approach that will empower you when you’re facing difficulties. It facilitates healing past hurts and resolving personal pain so you can leave behind that which isn’t serving you today.
What is Coaching?
Coaching is an evidence-based thought provoking and creative process that will inspire and energize you. It facilitates growth and will unleash your potential, so you can perform, and be, at our best. It empowers you to be your best self and create your dream life.
What is Wellbeing?
Wellbeing is a state of feeling good and being well in our mind and body. Wellbeing is a science and informed by positive psychology research. There are many facets of wellbeing including emotional, social, physical, and societal. The two faces of wellbeing science are happiness (feeling good) and meaning (doing good).
Whether I’m in counselling mode or coaching mode, your wellbeing is my driving indicator.
Why train in so many different areas?
Humans are complex creatures, and I found the more I learnt the more questions I had, so I kept studying. 4 university degrees later I look back and understand why.
I found psychology, counselling, coaching, and wellbeing all overlap at times, but that their line of focus remains distinct:
- Psychology focuses on mental illness and what is ‘wrong’ with people
- Counselling retains a focus on gaining insight from the past
- Coaching tends to be future-oriented and solutions-focused
- Positive psychology (aka wellbeing science) retains a focus on character strengths and what is ‘right’ with people
The big question that kept driving me to study
Equality, diversity, and inclusion are non-negotiables for me. I want to work with people who are drawn to work with me. And I want to be certain that I am equipped to serve them in all their colours and shades. No matter what life is throwing at them. I want to enable and empower them to be strong, rise, and shine in their chosen arena.
My big ah-ha moment
I came across the mental health continuum model during my master’s degree and things started to fall into place for me. Finally, I understood why I was driven to know more, and more importantly how I wanted to show up for my clients.
Mental health continuum
The mental health continuum model says that mental health and wellbeing are on a
continuum, and that it’s part of the human condition to fluctuate between them
over the course of our lives. At one end of the mental health continuum there is low wellbeing/suffering and mental illness and at the other end there is high wellbeing/thriving and mental health.
Many models and practitioners set their sights at the middle of the mental health continuum,
to say they feel their job is done when you are surviving or have no ill health.
But that’s not me.
I meet you precisely where you’re at and my aim will always be the same.
To lead you towards the direction of your best self (thriving), where you’re mentally strong and resilient, no matter your circumstance. Where you will be empowered to live your best life, alongside your reality.
- You can flourish with chronic pain
- You can flourish with mental illness
- You can flourish at difficult times in your life
- You can flourish during times of stress
Learning wellbeing strategies will enable and empower you no matter what you’re dealing with.
My aim will be to meet you precisely where you’re at.
If you’re suffering, I will provide a safe and healing counselling space and we’ll do that work to make sure there’s nothing holding you back before moving into creating the life you want.
If you’re surviving and you’re ready to start maximizing your wellbeing and achieving your goals we can move straight into that work.
You are in the driver’s seat. This is your time and your centre stage to do your best work and create a life that you alone are proud of.
